Get Involved

Being a part of Rainbows in Nanaimo as a facilitator, snack/meal volunteer, fundraiser, Board Member or Sponsor brings joy, healing, and an opportunity for life-changing growth to over 200 children, teens, and their parents locally every year. If you would like to become more involved in your community, we have a number of opportunities for community members to contribute.

Sponsor your local Rainbows programs

As an individual or community business/organization sponsor for Rainbows in Nanaimo, you will be contributing to a program that benefits many different community members. Whether you or your staff have personal experience with grief, or you know someone’s family who has gone through the Rainbows program, we appreciate your consideration to strengthening this much-needed service. As families learn more about Rainbows and the demand for the program to expand grows, we call upon community members and businesses to consider their potential to contribute to helping families heal from grief. Through a peer support program, children are able to recognize that they are not alone and learn positive coping mechanisms, which can have a life-lasting effect on their well-being. There are countless hours of volunteering that are dedicated to this program, and we anticipate only further growth. If you are interested in being a part of that journey and learning about how to become a Rainbows Sponsor, please click on the link below to visit our Canada Helps charity site – see link below:

Become a Rainbows Facilitator Volunteer

If you would like to learn more about becoming a Rainbows Facilitator, we would love to hear from you! Facilitators are caring individuals who guide Rainbows participants in their peer support group through a 12-week program. All facilitators are screened and are to attend the Rainbows workshop by the Program Director. Our team of facilitators is completely voluntary and has assisted with the program for one term to 8+ years! We welcome College and University students in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Mental Health, and Psychology, as well as professionals or individuals who have experience in dealing with children, are great listeners, and have a great deal of compassion and empathy. Please email or call to learn more about opportunities!

Special Events and Fundraising Committee

We invite you to bring your creative ideas and experience towards a GREAT cause! It takes a team of dedicated volunteers every year to provide this successful program to many children, teens, and parents. We look forward to growing community awareness and expanding the capacity of the program to include all potential participants. Email or give us a call for more info on attending our next meeting!

Snack/Meal Volunteer

We are thrilled to be partnered with Nanaimo Loaves and Fishes, enabling us to offer healthy and nutritious light snacks throughout the course of the program, at the end of every session. When possible, a dinner is offered twice during the program, at the halfway point, and on the last evening (this may be on hold to follow health recommendations).

We offer a snack to the children while attending the program. Please contact us as we deal with allergies.

If you love to cook or would like to learn how to be involved in the preparation/offering of snacks or meals, let us know!

Board Member

We are excited to have a fantastic group of governing board members, who support the continuation and growth of Rainbows in Nanaimo; however, as an expanding organization, we are always welcoming new local business members looking to become more involved in a worthy cause!

Please contact our Board Chair: Monique Hendricks rmboard.rainbows@gmail.com or Director: Eden Wood 250.802.3716 to learn more information.
